There was one bill of interest to OFS members heard in the House Committee on Transportation. The bill, HB 2291 [7], would require some farm trucks carrying pesticides, fertilizer, fuel or other “hazardous materials” to meet paperwork and signage requirements. Katie testified against the bill language around farm trucks on behalf of OFS, asking the committee to remove those provisions from the legislation. We believe that the requirements are onerous and unnecessary.

This week brings hearings on two bills of interest to OFS members. HB 2043 [8] would appropriate money to ODA for the weed control program. Facing cuts in the Governor’s proposed budget, this bill is important in supporting that program. It is up for a public hearing in the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am in Hearing Room D. Written comments can be sent to:

Today, the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on SB 6 [9]. This bill modifies trapping regulations and requires 24 hr checks on animal traps along with new signage and reporting requirements. OFS opposes the bill, and we encourage you to attend the hearing or submit written testimony. The hearing is at 3:00 in Hearing Room C, and written comments can be sent to:
