PORTLAND, Ore. – Seven veteran lumber industry professionals were presented with Master Lumberman honors during the 2009 Western Wood Products Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz. in March.
WWPA Quality Services Director Kevin Binam said the Master Lumberman award is a prestigious honor within the Western lumber industry, with just 340 individuals honored since the program started in 1968.
The new Master Lumbermen are: Carl Buchanan, Swanson Group Manufacturing; Kimmy Burnette, Fort Apache Timber Co.; Patrick Grady, Bennett Lumber Products; Richard (Rick) Magee, Simpson Lumber Company, LLC; Earl Robinett, Yakama Forest Products of the Yakama Indian Nation; and Shane Young, Sierra Pacific Industries.
“These gentlemen are among the thousands of employees at Western mills who are committed to producing quality lumber products,” said Binam. “They are worthy representatives of the best our industry has to offer in lumber quality control.”
In a special presentation by George Emmerson of Sierra Pacific Industries, retiring Quality Services Director Tom Hanneman received the Master Lumberman honor. Emmerson praised Hanneman for “representing our industry with integrity and distinction.”
To qualify for the award, candidates must be WWPA Certified Graders for at least 20 years, have extensive experience in lumber manufacturing, hold supervisory responsibilities and must be nominated by their companies.
