Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife: CLACKAMAS, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a public presentation entitled, “Living with Oregon’s Black Bears” on Tuesday, May 19 in Sandy. The presentation will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. in the conference room at Mount Hood National Forest headquarters, located at 16400 Champion Way in Sandy.
Oregon is home to about 25,000 to 30,000 bears. Every year, the ODFW responds to calls from individuals from all over the state concerned about some kind of encounter they have had with a black bear. Last summer, the department responded to several bear-related incidents in the Sandy area.
“A few precautions can prevent most of the problems that people have with bears,” said Dave Bostick, assistant district wildlife biologist for the North Willamette Watershed District.
The event is open to the public free of charge.
