When sitcom actress Kirstie Alley recently died of cancer at 71, Jackson County in Southern Oregon lost one its largest landowners as the former “Cheers” star owned more than 353 acres on the Upper Applegate Road, according to the Mail Tribune [6]. The actress bought the land outside Jacksonville in 1989, and today it’s valued at $5.3 million. The newspaper said a stay at Under the Greenwood Tree Bed and Breakfast, which is now closed, may have sparked Alley’s interest in the region. She stayed there before filming 1989’s “Look Who’s Talking” with John Travolta, the newspaper reported.
