By Natural Resource News Note,

The number of cattle and calves on feed ready for the slaughter market in the United States has dropped by 2 percent since the first of November a year ago, numbering 11.7 million head, according to the USDA NASS report. The numbers for October were 2.11 million head, down 6 percent from the same month in 2021 and the lowest since 1996. An analysis in DTN.com Progressive Farmer [6] described the numbers as supportive of the market as feedlots will see higher cattle prices and noted that Nebraska placed the most cattle in October, followed by Texas, Kansas, and Colorado.
