By Oregonians for Food and Shelter
OFS joined hundreds of other organizations around the U.S. in requesting an extension from EPA on the comment period for the recently released Draft Insecticide Strategy. The Draft contains 700 pages of highly technical information, and the resulting Final Strategy will have a significant impact on the way agricultural producers use insecticides. Unfortunately, the request was denied by EPA, which leaves little time for understanding what’s in the draft and responding with meaningful comment. EPA will hold a public webinar on September 5, 2024, from 1-2 PM eastern to provide an overview of the draft. To attend the webinar, you must register in advance. Our national partners have organized additional opportunities for understanding the key components of this draft. If you’d like more information on these opportunities, please contact us.
OFS Hosts Pesticide Discussion Training
OFS hosted 45 farmers, foresters, and other natural resource professionals in a Pesticide Discussion Training led by our colleagues at CropLife America. This was a full-day event designed to help participants more effectively engage on the difficult topic of pesticides. Pesticides are critical to producing food and fiber across production systems, including organic. Their use is supported by an extensive regulatory framework. We are pleased to help prepare natural resource professionals to engage on this topic with confidence and fact-based information. Special thanks to Gen O’Sullivan and Scott Dahlman from CropLife America for a well-delivered training!
