Oregon wool and the Olympics

By Oregon Family Farm Association,

What do four-legged animals in Oregon have to do with the Olympics in Paris? Ralph Lauren used wool from sheep raised on the Imperial Ranch Farms in Maupin to create Team USA’s blue blazers adorned with red-and-white tipping worn during the opening ceremonies, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting. The wool was marketed through Maupin’s Shaniko Wool Company, which also provided wool for USA athletes competing in the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022. The Imperial Stock Ranch owned by Jeanne Carver in Maupin also provided wool for USA competitors during the  Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018, and Sochi, Russia, in 2014, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. This is the first time the Shaniko Wool Company has provided material for Summer Olympics athletes.
