Oregon winemakers sell the bulk for their beverage in the United States, where consumption of wine dropped by 6 percent in 2024, double the decline seen in 2023, according to a report by the International Organization of Vine and Wine in France. With 97 percent of their product sold within the United States, Oregon wineries face challenges in trying to increase their share of a declining market, according to the Portland Business Journal. Although in 2023 their sales grew by 4.7 percent, the value of the sales dropped by $25 million to $931 million. And an industry consultant suggested 2024 numbers of distributor sales to retailers are expected to decline by nearly 5 percent. Production may also be dropping in Oregon as well as across the United States, where production fell nationwide by 18 percent in 2024.
