EPA Releases New Mobile Tool for Implementing Pesticide Mitigation Measures
By Oregonian for Food and Shelter,
This week, EPA released an online calculator called: Pesticide App for Label Mitigations, or PALM, to aid in calculating required run-off and erosion mitigation points or drift buffers required on pesticide labels for endangered species protections. The calculator is the next in a series of tools that EPA has developed, which also include a print-and-fill mitigation menu and a downloadable Excel spreadsheet. As a mobile friendly tool that is more able to be used “on-the-go” and also provides a summary for record-keeping purposes, the calculator has potential to simplify the burden placed on applicators. Unfortunately, during some testing of the calculator, we also found that the programming makes calculation errors and produces incorrect results. We’ll be providing feedback to EPA. If you try it out and have feedback, you can provide that to EPA using the ‘Contact Us’ link at the calculator website.
