Ag update on Legislature, statewide petition

By Oregonians for Food and Shelter,

Legislative Update

The Special Session is set to continue on Monday, although it is unclear whether it will proceed or be delayed again based on Senator Gorsek’s ongoing health issue. The Special Session is also scheduled over the top of next week’s Legislative Days, where committees will be holding informational hearings on various topics of interest. The Capitol halls will be full of people and anticipation about what happens next and the fate of the transportation package.

Statewide Initiative Petition Update

This week, the chief petitioners behind Statewide Initiative Petition 45 (Climate Rights Constitutional Amendment) withdrew their measure, so it will not be considered for the 2026 ballot. While it may be refiled in the future for a later ballot such as 2028, we will continue to track and monitor.

For now, we will be focusing efforts against the other measures in front of us that will impact our members: the Watershed Bill of Rights measure for Lane County, which will appear on the May 2026 ballot as Measure 20-373, and IP 28, the statewide initiative petition that would make it illegal to kill animals, including animal agriculture, hunting, fishing, or pest/rodent control.
