The Trump administration has picked Republican Tootie Smith, former Clackamas County Commission chair, to serve as director of the Oregon Farm Service Agency in a move expected to advance the president’s less-regulation/more accountability agenda. Democrat Craig Robers, former Clackamas County sheriff, defeated Smith, who served on the commission from 2020 to 2024 and from 2013 to 2017 as well as in the Oregon State Legislature from 2001 to 2005.
