Campbell Global LLC, an affiliate of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, has purchased more than 28,000 acres of forestland in Oregon, likely for $190 million from timber giant Weyerhaeuser Co., to manage for pension funds and other groups. The acreage in the Willamette Valley and northern coastal range includes 8.5 million trees, primarily Western hemlock, Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, red cedar and red alder. Campbell, which oversees $10.1 billion in assets, said the Emerald Ridge land would be managed sustainably and provide living wage job opportunities for rural Oregon residents.
