Three more business organizations have joined a lawsuit challenging Oregon’s first-in-the-nation law that forces companies to pay for recycling materials they sell. Oregon Business & Industry, the Northwest Grocery Association and Food Northwest filed paperwork to join the challenge to the Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act that went into effect in July 2025. This initial lawsuit, filed last July by the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), sought and won a preliminary injunction to prevent enforcement of the recycling law, but it applies only to the NAW. Although other business associations asked the state to suspend the program and refund fees, it declined. So the three organizations sought to join the lawsuit to seek reprieve.
