This week, OFS sent a coalition letter [7] to the Oregon Department of Energy, requesting an extension on the comment period for their proposed Oregon Greenhouse Gas Reduction Gap Measures [8]. With no notice about this proposal and significant impacts to Oregon’s natural resource and manufacturing sectors, more time is needed to review and respond to this proposal. Several of the proposed “gap measures” would pose significant threats to the economic viability of food and fiber production and the essential tools required to maintain a stable supply chain. The proposals suggest a number of top-down restrictions that are simply unworkable with the practical realities of production and Oregon’s natural resource sector. We will be requesting that the Oregon Department of Energy and the Climate Action Commission incorporate the expertise necessary to ensure any proposed measures are compatible with sustaining Oregon’s food, fiber, and manufacturing sectors over the long term.
