This week, OFS convened a meeting with the Governor’s natural resource advisors and several members and partners to discuss the Oregon Department of Energy’s recently released draft of emissions reductions gap measures [7]. These measures are being put forward for modeling to quantify greenhouse gas emissions reductions and the information would be made available to decision-makers, including the Oregon Climate Action Commission and legislators.

With a very short comment period (which was extended from 8 days to 20 following our request for an extension), and a number of extreme proposed measures, we are asking for a re-set on this process, and a re-focus on measures that are viable, practical, and do not result in negative impacts to Oregon’s natural resource sector. The current deadline for comments is set for April 10th. Having only 20 days to comment on dozens of proposed measures that would harm or even eliminate Oregon food and fiber businesses is unreasonable and unworkable. We hope to see a revised process from ODOE in the coming days and will continue to engage on this topic to ensure meaningful consideration of Oregon’s natural resource sector throughout this process.
