Regulatory Update
By Oregonians for Food and Shelter [6],
The Oregon Climate Action Commission (CAC) voted to adopt the most ambitious of a set of proposed statewide carbon sequestration goals [7], nearly doubling the target they established in 2021. The goal is intended to be achieved through Natural Climate Solutions implemented on Oregon’s natural and working lands. While the goal is not enforceable, it is likely to influence future policy decisions.
It is concerning that the CAC adopted the more ambitious target before establishing a realistic path to achieve it – as was pointed out in our comments [8]on the proposals. A draft Natural Climate Solutions feasibility plan is expected later this summer, and OFS will continue engaging in the process.
