Oregon Ag regulatory update

This week, OFS submitted comments to the Department of Environmental Quality strongly opposing any recommendations to expand the Recycling Modernization Act’s (RMA) covered product definitions or increase fee-based burdens on Oregon’s food and fiber sectors. Our comments on the draft Marine Debris and Litter Study highlight that the state is relying on rough guesswork rather than actual field measurements of debris and litter, and that hitting businesses with new cleanup fees does nothing to curb littering. We urged DEQ and the legislature to advocate for administrative cost-relief measures rather than program expansions given the extreme cost burdens this program has posed to Oregon’s businesses.
