This week, OFS Executive Director Katie Murray attended a planning meeting as part of the Advisory Committee for the Oregon Bee Project [7]. OFS has served in an advisory role to this program since its inception over 10 years ago. The program’s impacts and outcomes are significant, having become a model nationwide.
Earlier this year, the program released its Bees of Oregon [8] report, tracking and compiling information on the hundreds of wild bee species around the state and their native plant relationships. The program also announced that Oregon has now seen five consecutive years without a pesticide-related bee kill, with the last noted incident in 2021. With over 12,000 applicators trained on pollinator protection protocols, the Oregon Bee Project has played a key role in that decline.
