Conference to discuss EPA, 2008 Farm Bill, state races

OWGL President Darren Padget invites the wheat grower community to actively engage in the activities planned for Tuesday, October 19th beginning with committee meetings in the morning, followed by a hosted luncheon at noon.  Meetings and the luncheon will be held at Inn at Cross Keys Station, in Madras, Oregon.  Producers and industry supporters are encouraged and welcome to attend all committee meetings, including Environment & Regulations; Federal Programs & Transportation; Marketing; Membership; and Research & Value-Added. Committee meetings are scheduled to begin at 8:15 am; lunch will be served at noon; and the OWGL board of directors meeting will follow the luncheon at 2:30 pm.

Special Guest speakers during the luncheon:

•    Ron Alvarado, State Conservationist, NRCS and Lynn Voigt, State Executive Director, FSA will provide an overview of 2008 Farm Bill implementation, CRP enrollment updates, and new program offerings. They will also answer your questions considering any of the aforementioned topics.
•    Paulette Pyle, Oregonians for Food and Shelter, will speak on the political races and OFS’s interaction with EPA regarding regulatory enforcement.

The Oregon Wheat Growers League Board of Directors will meet directly following lunch.
