Future Farmers gets $1.4M boost

By Taxpayer Foundation of Oregon,

Rep. Greg Barreto, R, Cove, authored and pass the only bill so far to receive a unanimous vote in the 80th Oregon legislature.

HB 2444 will fund Oregon Future Farmers of America with $1.43 million, passing by a 60-0 vote. Agriculture is a top priority for Barreto as he wants to see that future generations succeed in farming, leadership, and business. FFA also teaches speaking and parliamentary procedures.

FFA extends throughout the summer months when students are the busiest. The bill also provides funding necessary for teachers to work during the summer months when State and County Fairs, conventions and competitions are foremost.

Barreto knows how important maintaining the future of agriculture is for Oregon while working in the industry when he set up a business operation that manufactures farm and landscape equipment for the rental market 34 years ago. “My wife, (Chris, who also serves as his Chief of Staff) and I have truly experienced the American dream and want the same opportunity preserved for every American with a dream and the desire to work for it.”
